Clean Recycling Materials

Tautoko - image only (1).pngRequest For Clean Recycling
Inquiry Learning 2016: We Are The World
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
With the last few weeks of our Inquiry, we are getting creative with recycling.  We are in need of some clean recycling materials to support a few activities in the Pod.
Items such as:-
  • bottle tops
  • milk containers
  • plastic bottles (fizzy bottles with lids)

If we could have materials dropped to class on Monday 27th June, that would be greatly appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

Karl Radford, Gwen Thompson, Julie Peters, Gabby Gloyn and Sheila Monaghan.

Our Trip to the Recycling Centre

We had a wonderful trip today to the Awapuni Education Centre and Materials Recovery Facility.   Travelling in Homerooms by bus, each group spent time asking and answering questions about recycling, materials and the whole process of recycling.  Groups were also lead on a tour of the facilities.   We wish to thank all parents that came along to assist with the trip.
Below are some photos of each Homeroom standing in from of recycled plastic bottle bricks.

Awapuni Resource Recovery Park

PNCC Recycling Centre Visit
Information for Students & Parents

Monday 20 June 2016
Dear Parent/Caregiver(s),

Tomorrow we will be having our visit to the Awapuni Resource Recovery Park to support our Inquiry Learning unit: We Are The World - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We are really looking forward to the trip and it will be a great opportunity to explore the recycling process and understand the impact of humans actions on our environment now and in the future.

A reminder that we will be visiting in our homerooms (not as a whole POD). The times are outlined below:
Children and parent helpers will be transported by bus to the Awapuni Resource Recovery Park on Maxwell’s Line. Children will need to:
Please ensure you let your child’s homeroom teacher know if your child has any medical issues we need to be aware of prior to our trip, as it is important we can clearly identify and support any medical concerns that may arise.
Yours sincerely,
  • Homeroom 23 (9:15am - 11:15am), Homeroom 24 (10:15am - 12:15pm), Homeroom 25 (11:15am - 1:15pm).
Could parent helpers please ensure that they are at school at least 10 minutes before your child’s homeroom departs for the trip.

  • Wear full school uniform, including their school polar fleece or jacket.
  • Wear covered shoes due to health and safety regulations - these do not have to be normal black school shoes. All visitors must be wearing fully covered in footwear! NO SHOES, NO TOUR!
  • Have a drink bottle with water to take with them (we will have morning tea and lunch back at school).
  • Bring any necessary medication to their homeroom teachers e.g. asthma inhalers.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Cross Country

Tomorrow, Friday 10th June is Whakarongo School Cross Country.   The weather is questionable, but please assume it is on, unless otherwise stated, direct from the School App, Website or staff.

What our Tautoko Pod/Year 3's children and parents need to know ...
- Official welcome begins at 12.30pm
- Year 3 boys race is approximately 1.40pm
- Year 3 girls race is approximately 1.50pm start
- Races are expected to conclude at approximately 2.50pm.
- Children will be sitting in House Groups and need to remain there, except for when they race.
- We will remain at the farm to cheer for, and support, the remaining competitors before returning to school just before 3pm.

* Please note:
The Atrium Building/Tautoko area, will be fully locked up for the duration of the event.  This will be unlocked when everyone returns to school/just before 3pm, so children can retrieve the bags/equipment then.

Children need to have the following (for running and for staying warm)
- School uniform worn to school
- House t-shirt colours and running shorts
- Socks and running shoes (highly recommended)
- A warm jersey/top/warm clothes for putting on at the farm
- A water bottle (prior to the event)
- A good lunch (prior to the event)

Children will need to be responsible for their own gear, so EVERYTHING MUST be named.

Week 5 Value Certificates - Perseverance

Well done to Ruby Shepherd, Thomas Sidey and William Donaldson for always persevering with tasks in the Tautoko POD.  You deserve the Value Certificates!!

Ipads in the Classroom

Thank you for supporting your child with their Ipad and requirements this year.   However, there are still a number of children who aren't able to access the ideal/required applications in class for some tasks we are completing.  (See information on http://wstautoko2016.blogspot.co.nz/p/ict-information.html ).

At this time, we are using the following applications, so please talk with your child, and check that they are installed on their Ipad:
- Explain Everything
- Quickvoice
- Book Creator
- Pic Collage
- Mathletics
We are also in the processes of working with documents in Google Drive, so please check that this is all up to date.

Any queries, feel free to talk to any of the Pod Teachers.
